HUDSON — William D. "Bill" Kono, 70, of Hudson, died Sunday, Nov. 28, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, of cancer.

He was born Aug. 15, 1940, in Waterloo, son of Robert and Jean Snow Kono. He married Brigitte Engel in 1964, and they later divorced. He married Karen Sawyer in 1977, and they later divorced. He married Beverly Boyle on Nov. 24, 2003.

Mr. Kono worked in the foundry at John Deere for 26 years, retiring in 1998, and was a U.S. Army veteran, stationed in Germany. He was a 32nd degree Mason Black Hawk Lodge 65 AF&AM and was a member of the El Mecca Shrine Club and a charter member of El Mecca Fire House Gang.

Survived by: his wife; a son, Timothy (Angel) of Waterloo; two daughters, Michelle (Randy) Vorland of Hudson and Raquel (Darren) Mann of Murray; four stepchildren, Dylan Armstrong, Christian Bouska, Lucas Boyle and Sarah Boyle, all of Waterloo; seven grandchildren, Brittany Kono, Allison, Leah and Nickalaus Rottinghaus and Savannah, Sierra and Cody Mann; a sister, Kay (Bud) Short Sutherland of Cedar Falls; two half brothers, Doyle Kono of Fairbank and Terry Kono of Cornith, Mo.; and two half sisters, Joyce Conard of Oelwein and Judy McGinnis of West Union.

Preceded in death by: his parents; his stepfather, Lyle Miller; and a brother, Robert.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Locke Funeral Home, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49 and Iowa Army National Guard. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with a 7 p.m. public Masonic eulogy service by Black Hawk Lodge 65 AF&AM.

Memorials: may be directed to the family.

Bill is survived by his faithful fishing companion and pal, Ty Apollo.
