GILBERTVILLE — Margaret O'Connell, 83, of Gilbertville, died Saturday, Nov. 27, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center, Waterloo.

She was born Dec. 21, 1926, in rural Waterloo, daughter of Leo and Magdalene Demuth Wagner. She married Daniel G. O'Connell on Oct. 29, 1949, in Gilbertville. He died Jan. 5, 2007.

Mrs. O'Connell was a full-time homemaker and also was employed at Rath Packing Co. before her marriage. She then worked in alterations at New York Fashion and sorted corn for Pioneer Seed.

Survived by: two sons, Daniel L. (Shirley) of Evansdale and Michael (Sara Hicks) of Overland Park, Kan.; six daughters, Cheryl (Doug) Huddleston, Margene O'Connell (Ned Caples) and Mary (George) Scully, all of Waterloo, Janet (Mike) Blad of Elk Run Heights, Nancy (Larry) Haskin of Evansdale and Barbara (Mark) Meier of Cedar Falls; 16 grandchildren, Stephanie Huddleston, Paul (Cari) O'Connell, Brenda (John) Roushkolb, Patrick (Erin) O'Connell, Melissa (Mike) Timmer, Michelle and Nicole Reinard, Emily (Luke) Putzler, Christopher Blad, Sarah (Travis) Atwood, Matthew (Jana Berberich) Haskin, Daniel, Laura, Allison, Emma Meier and Michael O'Connell; six great-grandchildren, Ethan and Morgan O'Connell and Brycen and Aubree Timmer, Zane Putzler and Jackson Atwood; and two sisters, Theresa (Wayne) Hoofnagle of Waterloo and Dolores Lantz of Gilbertville.

Preceded in death by: three brothers, Jerome, Bernard and Vince Wagner; and two sisters, Juanita Wagner and Lorraine Neisen.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, both in Gilbertville. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, Waterloo, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation also an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or Alzheimer's Association.
