WATERLOO — Myron P. Zimmer, 79, of Waterloo, died at home Friday, Nov. 26, following a long illness.

He was born Oct. 16, 1931, on a farm in Benton County, son of Max and Ella Speck Zimmer. He married Delores Stanley on Aug. 14, 1953, in Waterloo.

Mr. Zimmer graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1950. He was a senior designer at John Deere Product Engineering Center, retiring in 1985 after 35 years. He also had served in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1951 to 1959 as a radar man.

Survived by: his wife; four sons, David (Gail) of Helena, Mont., Max (Jodi) of Waterloo, Martin (Angela) of Urbana and Rodney of Phoenix; a daughter, Deanna (Randy) Temple of Ingleside, Ill.; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: an infant brother, Arthur M.; and a sister Mae Wenner.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Chapel at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery, with burial in the cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Locke Funeral Home.

Myron's family moved to Waterloo when he was 10 years old, residing at First United Methodist Church where his parents were custodians. He could tell many stories of growing up living in a church, from climbing the roof to change a light bulb in the lighted cross, to shoveling coal in the furnace. Myron's life revolved completely around his love for his family.
