RAYMOND — Thelma Kuyrkendall, 96, formerly of Raymond, died Sunday, Nov. 28, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center, Waterloo.

She was born Nov. 6, 1914, in Waterloo, daughter of George and Lydia Adella Gushard Butler. She married Eston Kuyrkendall on Nov. 27, 1933, in Marshalltown. He died Sept. 20, 1978.

Mrs. Kuyrkendall attended school in Waterloo. She and her husband farmed for many years, and she also worked as a housekeeper at St. Francis Hospital/Covenant Medical Center. She was a member of Raymond United Methodist Church, where she served communion for 40 years.

Survived by: a daughter, Arlene (Gerald "John") Stocks of Waterloo; a stepson, Gene (Jane) Kuyrkendall of Texas; a grandson, John (Heather) Stocks of Waterloo; three great-grandchildren, Jhanna (Tim De Heck), Kee-Lee and Zane Stocks; two great-great-grandchildren, Mila and Malcolm De Heck; and a sister, Marjorie Scheel of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by: her parents; a grandson, Jeff Stocks; two brothers, Albert and Arthur Butler; and two sisters, Helen Harrold and Lillian Tounshendeaux.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel.

Memorials: may be directed to the family; a donation will be made at a later date.
