FAUSCH, REINERTSON, TANNER, HENSON, MERSHON, HASSELBRING

HUDSON - Paul D. Fausch, 86, of Hudson, died at home Monday, Nov. 8.

He was born Feb. 12, 1924, on his father's farm in Polk County, son of Dewey George and Nettie Reinertson Fausch. He married Marlys Jean Tanner on Sept. 24, 1949, in Waterloo. She died Oct. 8, 2010.

Mr. Fausch graduated from Kelly High School in 1941 with a basketball scholarship to Luther College. He was a mariner with the Merchant Marines, joining in 1943, in the Atlantic, Mediterranean and Pacific war zones. After the war, he moved to the Cedar Falls/Waterloo area and worked for 41 years as a welder and a stainless steel fabricator at General Sheet Metal Works. He was a member of the Hudson AMVETS Post 82.

Survived by: a son, Steven (Chris) of Solon; a daughter, Debra (Randy) Henson of Waterloo; four grandchildren, Judd and Mitchell Henson and Holly and Joe Hanson; and two great-grandchilren, Owen and Benjamin Hanson.

Preceded in death by: two sons, Douglas Fausch and Russ Hanson; and two sisters, Nancy Mershon and Jane Hasselbring.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, Waterloo, with burial in Hudson Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Hudson AMVETS Post 82. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and for an hour before services Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials: may be directed to the family in lieu of flowers.

Paul loved sports, especially the Cubs. He played baseball and basketball, and after high school graduation, he formed a basketball team and played in the Ames and Waterloo areas. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
