CEDAR FALLS — Ralph Merton Houck, 90, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, Oct. 31, at Bickford Cottage.

He was born Jan. 11, 1920, in Indianola, son of William E. and Mabel Wilber Houck. He married Anita C. Weber on May 22, 1950, in Riceville. She died Aug. 19, 1992.

He graduated from Manly High School in Manly. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. Mr. Houck was employed with the Iowa State Patrol for 38 years, working in communications, retiring in December 1985.

Survived by: a son, Joe (Joyce) of Waterloo; two granddaughters, Nicole Houck of Coralville and Olivia Houck of Iowa City; and three stepgrandchildren, Jenna (Justin) Brown of Indianola, Michael Staebell of Cedar Falls and Laura (Michael) Steen of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by: a granddaughter, Caitlin Houck; two brothers, William and Donald; and two sisters, Jean Mc Kibben and Nina Tietz.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with a 7 p.m. vigil service. Military rites will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49.
