WATERLOO - John Eldon Seery Jr., 72, of Waterloo, died Sunday, Oct. 24, at Allen Hospital.

He was born Dec. 2, 1937, in Waterloo, son of John Eldon and Georgia I. Jennings Seery Sr. He married Judith Arhart on July 6, 1959, in Clear Lake, and they later divorced. He then married Caryl Seifert Bienfang in January 1998.

Mr. Seery served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955-1957 and had worked for John Deere Tractor Manufacturing Co. as a mechanic, retiring in 1991. He then started a concession business selling mini doughnuts, called "The Missing Hole" and later started an over-the-road trucking business.

Survived by: his wife; two daughters, Patricia Markowitz of Crystal Lake, Ill., and Jacquelene (Lee) Patch of Chelsea, Mich.; a son, David (Maria) of Ankeny; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four stepsons, Scott Knight and Brian (Deb) Knight, both of Waterloo, Martin (Cathy) Knight of Addison, Ala., and Kirby (Valerie) Knight of Madison, Ala.; a stepdaughter, Shari (Mark) Cutsforth of Waterloo; nine stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-granddaughters.

Preceded in death by: a son, Daniel; and a sister, Bonnie Jean O'Toole.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31, with flag folding by the Iowa Army Honor Guard. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, with a 6 p.m. rosary. Visitation also for an hour before services Thursday at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to the Cedar Valley Hospice aide's continuing education and palliative care certification.

John loved to camp, fish and thoroughly enjoyed his vacation trips out West with his family and close friends. He enjoyed sharing all the wonderful sights and memories. He was an active member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church. A special thank you goes to all of John's relatives, friends and hospice care givers.
