CEDAR FALLS - Arnold Fredrick Andersen, 83, of Cedar Falls, died Thursday, Oct. 7, at Sartori Memorial Hospital.

He was born Feb. 20, 1927, in Dike, son of Paul and Eva Ubben Andersen. He married Joann Bergen Jan. 4, 1946, at North Minister Presbyterian Church in Waterloo.

He graduated from Hudson High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served until the end of World War II, serving on the USS Pennsylvania when it was torpedoed a day before the war was over. Mr. Andersen was a salesman for General Electric, a bookkeeper for IPS, sold two-way radios and drove the school bus for the Cedar Falls school district. He was a deacon and elder at Presbyterian Church, a lifetime member of Andersen Amvets Post 82 in Hudson, a lifetime member of Elks Lodge, a member of the American Legion in Waterloo, and a member of the Masonic Martin Lodge 624 in Waterloo. He took part in Honor Flight to Washington DC to see the World War II Memorial.

Survived by: his wife; three children, Becky (Gary) Anderson of Waterloo, Kevin (Lindy) Andersen of Grundy Center and Kurt (Deanne) Andersen of St. Michael, Minn.; two sisters, Carma Belz of Ames and Beth (Don) Dirks of Reinbeck; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five extended grandchildren; and 10 extended great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: two brothers, Thorvald and John Andersen; an infant sister; and a son, Brian Andersen.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, with burial in Garden of Memories. Public visitation from 3 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home, with a 6 p.m. Masonic service. Military Rites conducted by the Andersen Amvets Post 82 in Hudson.

Arnold's family knows where he is today because his priorities were God, family, and country. Arnold will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
