BRUSTKERN, BASTENDORF

WATERLOO - Cecil N. Brustkern, 87, of Rosewood Estates, died there Thursday, Oct. 7.

He was born Feb. 23, 1923, in Waterloo, son of Nick and Anna Bastendorf Brustkern.

Mr. Brustkern attended Sacred Heart School from grade school to his graduation. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps, serving in World War II. He was employed with John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for 39 years, retiring in 1982. He was a 45-year member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars and a member of the Knights Of Columbus.

Survived by: a sister, Kathleen King of Waterloo; a sister-in-law, Roberta Brustkern of Waterloo; three godchildren, Barbara Myers, Zach Driscoll and Jim Brustkern; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: his parents; and three brothers, Art, Lawrence and Harold.

Service: 11 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 138, Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 1623 and the Iowa Army National Guard. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, 234-6274, with a 4 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also an hour before services Monday at the church.

Cecil has been described as a real gentleman and a man whose life revolved around his Catholic faith, his family and relatives, neighbors and friends. He deeply honored his country and good church dinners and bake sales. He deeply appreciated Dr. Breitkreuz and his office staff, "the girls" at Bridges, Rosewood, Kimball Drug and all who helped him for the past years.
