LA PORTE CITY - Robert D. Kerr, 77, of La Porte City, died Saturday, Oct. 9, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, from complications of cancer

He was born Oct. 31, 1932, in Jefferson Township, Buchanan County, son of William and Thelma Sweet Kerr. He married Lois Jean Newell on Nov. 22, 1969, at First United Methodist Church, La Porte City. She died Aug. 27, 2005.

Mr. Kerr graduated from La Porte City Consolidated School on May 18, 1950, and worked for John Deere Tractor Works for 34 years, retiring in 1985. He served in the U.S. Navy receiving an Honorable Discharge with the rank of Petty Officer Third Class. He was a member of Waterloo Elks, Waterloo AMVETS and the La Porte City Golf Club.

Survived by: a daughter, Susan (Forest Joyner) Kerr of Ankeny; and three grandchildren, Nicolas Bulver, Elisabeth Bulver and Alysun Bulver, all of Ankeny.

Preceded in death by: his parents; and a brother, Billie.

Celebration of Life Service: at the Century Farm at a later date. His body will be cremated. Locke Funeral Home assisted the family.
