WATERLOO — Joseph "Bill" Holdiman, 88, of Waterloo, died Monday, Oct. 4, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City.

He was born Oct. 1, 1922, in Waterloo, son of Joseph F. and Hulda Kauffman Holdiman. He married Dolores "Dee" Atzmiller on March 16, 1946, in Waterloo.

Mr. Holdiman was a railroad engineer for the Illinois Central Railroad for 41 years, retiring in 1982.

Survived by: his wife; two sons, David (Jeanine) of Marshalltown and Stephen (Corinne) of Cincinnati; three daughters, Nancy Burr of Burnsville, Minn., and Diane (Craig) Hempenius and Debra English, both of West Branch; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Daniel of Vancouver, Wash.; and two sisters, Peggy Thompson of Evansdale and Alice Holdiman of Decorah; .

Preceded in death by: three sisters, Grace Nation, Katherine Eastman and Elaine McCracken; and a granddaughter.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel, and for an hour before services Friday at the church.
