WATERLOO - Helen "Lavone" Merritt McConkey, 86, formerly of Waterloo, died Thursday, Sept. 23, at Grace Living Center, Jenks, Okla.

She was born Aug. 29, 1924, near Burlington Junction, Mo., daughter of Harold and Flora Mitchell Merritt. She married Clarence McConkey on March 8, 1947. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. McConkey graduated from Elmo High School, Elmo, Mo., in 1942 and attended Hagee Beauty School, Maryville, Mo. She worked at Aleene's Beauty Shop, Albany, Mo. She also had attended the University of Northern Iowa and was a member of First United Methodist Church, Waterloo.

Survived by: a daughter, Linda Willins of Bradford Abbas, Dorset, England; three sons, Chuck of Bixby, Okla., David of Dededo, Guam, and Steven of Rochelle, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, James, Kenneth and Paul Merritt; and two sisters, Lolabelle Merritt Clary and Audrey Merritt Murray.

Preceded in death by: an infant sister, Roberta Lois Merritt; a sister, Bertha Lee; and two brothers-in-law, Keith Lee and Tim Clary.

Services 11 a.m. Tuesday at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel, with burial in the cemetery.
