WATERLOO - Dean C. Lively, 74, of Des Moines, formerly of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, at Mercy Hospice, Johnston, of cancer.

He was born Aug. 17, 1936, in Waterloo, son of Margaret and Delbert Lively. He married Ruth Melcher in 1956. He married Lynn Vesterse on Nov. 10, 1984.

He graduated from Waterloo East High School. Mr. Lively worked and retired from Central States Theaters after 42 years of service. He was the manager of the last drive-in theater in the Des Moines area, the SE 14th Street Drive In.

Survived by: his wife, Lynn; his mother, Margaret of Urbandale, formerly of Waterloo; two sons, Dennis and Michael (Lily) of Shenzen, China; a daughter, Lisa (Mike) Kinnear; four grandchildren, Amy (Mike) Davis, Michael (Ashley) Lively, Camden Lively and Vanessa (Ryan) Warren; four great-grandchildren, Daniel and Aidan Davis and Hailey Jo and Michael Lively; and his constant canine companion, Max.

Preceded in death by: his father, Delbert.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home, Des Moines, with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Public visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and for an hour before services Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials: may be directed to Mercy Hospice-Johnston or the Animal Rescue League.

Dean's loves in life were his family, bowling, the Iowa Hawkeyes and a good movie. Dean will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, husband and son.
