WATERLOO — Julia Cangas Puga, 86, of Waterloo, died Saturday, Sept. 4, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home of natural causes.

She was born July 30, 1924, in Fort Madison, daughter of Leonardo and Emilia Ortiz Cangas. She married Pedro Puga in Fort Madison, and they later divorced.

Ms. Puga was a homemaker in her own home for several years and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Survived by: two daughters, Josephine Brown (Stan Orna) of Waterloo and Betty Shadow (Earl Thornton) of Waterloo; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: five brothers, Manuel, Frank, Joe and Phillip Cangas and Frank Cangas in infancy.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation for an hour before services Friday at the church. Locke Funeral Home is assisting the family.
