WATERLOO — M. Marcene Schmitz, 90, of Waterloo, died Monday, Sept. 6, at Allen Hospital.

She was born July 14, 1920, in Waterloo, daughter of John Albert and Iva Violet Fassett
Manross. She married Paul David Schmitz on June 11, 1955. He died Jan. 5, 2003.

Mrs. Schmitz graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1938 and was a mother and homemaker. She was a past leader of the Girl Scouts of America and was a member of

Queen of Peace parish, Queen of Peace card recycling and Queen of Peace craft club.

Survived by: a son, Danny L. (Sherry) of Waterloo; two daughters, Colleen (Joe) Benedict of Cedar Rapids and Beth (Tony) Koehler of Warsaw, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Aeneas Schmitz, Nathan (Devon) Schmitz, Nicholas (Jamie) Schmitz, Amanda Benedict, Rebecca Benedict, Kerbee Koehler and Kyra Koehler; and a great-grandson, Oliver Paul Schmitz.

Preceded in death by: a sister, Marcella Jorges; and a half brother, Lowell Manross.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation also an hour before services Friday at the church.

Memorials: may be made to the family or church.

Marcene’s greatest joy was spending time with family and friends, her grandchildren and especially her great grandson, Oliver.
