WATERLOO - Warren A. Holden, 89, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, at Lakeview Landing of natural causes.

He was born Oct. 6, 1920, in Waterloo, son of Lell S. and Leona Caeser Holden. He married Dorothy Erikson of Waterloo Sep. 29, 1942, in Phoenix. She died Oct. 17, 2000.

Mr. Holden graduated from Waterloo West High School and the University of Iowa. He served in the Army Air Corps, as a P-38 fighter pilot, during World War II, where he was awarded the distinguished flying cross. He retired as president of Construction Machinery Co. in Waterloo in 1982. He was past-president and life member of the National Ready-mix Association and Iowa Manufactures Association. He was past-president of Waterloo Chamber of Commerce and Sunnyside Country Club. He served on many community boards, including the Waterloo Airport Commission. He was a member of the board of directors of the Waterloo Savings Bank and Chamberlin Manufacturing Co. He helped to establish the Waterloo Community Foundation. He was a member of Kiwanis, Elk Lodge 200, El Kahir Shrine and Royal Order of Jesters. He was a member of Cedar Heights Presbyterian Church.

Survived by: a son, Sam (Janet) of Manchester; five daughters, Marsha (Duke) Dutkowski of Waterloo, Linda (Roland) Sweet of Dallas, Texas, Cindy (Martin Wenger) Holden of Dubuque, Drs. Andy (Dan) McGuire of Des Moines and Sandy (Jeff) Peatrowsky of Dallas; 21 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Waterloo Memorial Park Chapel, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by Evansdale Amvets Post 31, Waterloo Amvets Post 19 and the Iowa Army National Guard. Public visitation from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, and for an hour before services Tuesday at the chapel.

Memorials: may be directed to Lakeview Landing Health Center, 600 Park Lane in Waterloo or the Waterloo Community Foundation.

Warren and Dorothy enjoyed Hawkeye football, Mississippi boating (charter members of HPBC), golfing and traveling.
