WATERLOO, Iowa - A motorcyclist died when his bike skidded off U.S. Highway 218 into Brinker Lake Friday at about 11:20 a.m., police said.

He was identified Friday night as Tyler Lee Pearce, 19, of Waterloo.

Firefighters and police located the submerged body of the male near the highway bridge after spotting his helmet floating on the water. The motorcycle was discovered a short distance away.

Jordan Milano of Waterloo said he was driving north when the orange motorcycle, also northbound, passed him in another lane at a high rate of speed.

Milano said he himself was traveling at about 70 mph, and the man on the motorcycle was going "so much faster."

"He started wobbling and veered off," Milano said.

The motorcycle went to the right, through grass and apparently slipped under a chain-link fence and clipped a sapling before the drop off.

Milano pulled over but was unable to locate the bike and the driver. He did find pieces of the vehicle and noticed the floating helmet.

After emergency workers found the motorcycle and the driver in the lake, they used fire department boats to bring brought both ashore by the lake's boat ramp in George Wyth State Park.

Waterloo Police said the accident remains under investigation.
