WATERLOO - Rex LeRoy Jenkins, 89, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Aug. 24, at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines of natural causes.

He was born Aug. 24, 1921, in Oelwein, son of Fred A. and Alda Lennon Jenkins. He married Florence Hennings; they later divorced.

Mr. Jenkins was a U.S. Marine serving during World War II. He was a clerk for the Waterloo Post Office for more than 35 years. He was a member of the VFW and a lifelong member of the Elks Club.

Survived by: two sons, Leslie of Kissimmee, Fla., and Scott of Aurora, Colo.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a companion, Virginia Dotzler and her children and grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: three sisters, Virginia, Evelyn and Gloria; and a brother, Floyd.

Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 138 and V.F.W. Post 1623. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation will continue for an hour before services Tuesday at the funeral home.
