EVANSDALE - Donald J. McCready, 72, of Evansdale, died Wednesday, Aug. 25, at Iowa City Hospital, Iowa City, of a sudden Illness.

He was born May 18, 1938, in Barron County, Wis., son of David and Dorothy M. Borchers McCready. He married Kathy Kinkade Gnade on Sept. 18, 2004.

Mr. McCready graduated from Waterloo East High School and served as a U.S. Marine. He worked many places, eventually going to work at John Deere Tractor Works for 30 years, retiring in 1994. He was currently the operations manager and ring man for Cornbelt Auctions and ring man for Geiger Auctions, Gaffey Auctions.

Survived by: his wife; three sons, Donald Jr. (Joy) of Springdale, Ark., Russell (Madeline) of Waterloo and Steve (Teresa) Aylsworth of Newton; four daughters, Lucinda "Cindy" Heins of Texas, Mary (Gary) Aylsworth-Graveman of Savannah, Mo., Holly Woods of Waterloo and Beth Cameron-Marsh of Texas; 18 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, David "Wimp" (Marlys) of Evansdale.

Preceded in death by: a daughter, Carmen McCready.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church, Waterloo, with full military rites by Evansdale AMVETS Post 31, Waterloo AMVETS 19 and Iowa Army National Guard. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, Waterloo, and for an hour before services Friday at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to the family.

Don loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and family. They were his pride and joy. He and Kathy did everything together, and he will be greatly missed. He loved fishing, casinos, dancing, boating, reading and even started doing karaoke. He loved playing Phase 10 with son Steve; the Green Bay Packers; and dealing in antiques. Don was an amazing man, wonderful, gentle, fun-loving and huggable.
