FITZGERALD, SALZ, FOLEY, MULLAN

WATERLOO — Virginia I. Fitzgerald, 100, of Waterloo, died Monday, Aug. 23, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center of natural causes.

She was born Dec. 16, 1909, in Waterloo, daughter of John E. and Mary Regina Salz Foley. She married Lucian Fitzgerald Sept. 21, 1946, in Waterloo. He died March 18, 2007.

Mrs. Fitzgerald graduated from Our Lady of Victory Academy and prior to her marriage worked at Davidson Furniture Co. for 16 years as a bookkeeper and cashier.

Survived by: a sister-in-law, Bonnie Fitzgerald of Des Moines; a niece and Godchild, Carolyn Salz Foleof Dubuque; a special cousin, Sister Kathleen Doherty B.V.M. of Chicago; several cousins, Mary (Joe) Koster of Dunkerton, Winifred Mulvehill and Theresa (William) Parker, both of Waterloo, Dolores (Hank) VanEschen of Vinton, James (Cecil) Salz of Arizona and Marguerite Kurtz of Gilbertville; four special grandnieces, Marion Foster of Dover, Mass., Lynn Virginia Tanuz of Pecos, N.M., Jeanne McGonigle of Fountain Hills, Ariz., and Shirley M. Irwin of Littleton, Colo.; and a dear friend, Betty Stiles of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by: two sisters, Pauline Mullan and Regina Foley; and a brother, Giles Foley.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Edward Catholic Church, with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary. Visitation also an hour before services Thursday at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to the church or Cedar Valley Hospice.

Virginia loved traveling with her parents and later with Lucian. She was a homemaker and loved canning from Lucian’s garden. She also enjoyed dancing with Lucian.
