WATERLOO - Earl F. Shepard, 76, of Waterloo, died Friday, Aug. 6, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home of cancer.

He was born Aug. 13, 1933, in Greene, son of Harry and Avis Crosby Shepard. He married Doris Jean Wrede Aug. 2, 1958, in Calmar. She died Dec. 30, 2008.

Mr. Shepard was a mechanic at John Deere Tractor Works for 28 years, retiring in 1994. He worked for Miller and Sons Landscaping for eight years.

Survived by: a son, Brian (Joan) Shepard of Waterloo; a daughter, Jane (Conrad) Hopper of Jesup; three brothers, Lloyd (Lois) of Evansdale, Lynn (Shirley) of Tama and Jerry; a sister, Mary Ann Straw of Rogers, Ark.; and three grandchildren, Alex, Ashley and Audrey Shepard.

Preceded in death by: a brother, Harry Shepard.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, with burial in Waterloo Cemetery. Public visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.
