WATERLOO - Raymond McBride, 81, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, July 14, at Allen Hospital of heart attack.

He was born Nov. 8, 1928, in San Diego, son of Clarence and Leta Nilsson McBride. He married Mary Ellen Stephenson on June 3, 1950, in Newton. She died Oct. 11, 2008.

Mr. McBride graduated from San Diego High School in 1946 and attended Drake University for a year. He delivered dairy products for Carnation Co. for 34 years, retiring in 1987. He also coached football part time at Hoover and Central schools and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He was a member of First Congregational Church. Following retirement he volunteered, working with many students at various schools, and was the first recipient of the Golden Apple Award.

Survived by: a son, Stephen (Judy) of Colfax; three grandchildren, Justin and Joshua McBride, both of Newton, and Jessica (Bailey Dannels) McBride of Colfax; and two great-grandchildren, Cameron McBride and Destiny McBride-Dannels.

Preceded in death by: an infant son.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Locke Funeral Home, with burial at a later date. Public visitation for an hour before services Monday at the funeral home.
