WATERLOO - Marie A. Oden, 81, of Waterloo, died Saturday, July 24, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

She was born July 11, 1929, in Waterloo, daughter of Theodore and Gussie Green Griggs. She married Louis Creighton in September 1946 in Waterloo. He preceded her in death. She later married Henry Oden in November 1960 in Waterloo. He died in 1971.

Mrs. Oden worked as a receptionist at the Boys and Girls Club for 10 years and was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church.

Survived by: a daughter, Lawanna Creighton of Waterloo; three sons, Louis Creighton Jr. of Colby, Kan., Hamp Batemon III of Phoenix and Theodore Batemon of Lombard, Ill.; nine grandchildren; a sister, Mabel Marsh of Burlington; and a brother, Leo L. Griggs of Cedar Rapids.

Preceded in death by: an infant son, Howard L. Creighton; three sisters, Glendora Griggs, Quinzola Bryant and Leora Roberts; three brothers, Theodore Griggs Jr., Charles Griggs and Donald Johnson; and her longtime companion, Howard C. Sanders.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Public visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.
