WATERLOO - Elizabeth "Betty" Conrad Rugen, 89, of Waterloo, died Monday, July 19, at Allen Hospital.

She was born Oct. 15, 1920, in Watseka, Ill., daughter of Edward and Daisy Buck Conrad. She married Vernon L. Rugen on Dec. 24, 1942, in Kingman, Ariz. He died April 13, 2004.

She graduated from Watseka High School and received a bachelor's degree in dietary science from the University of Illinois. She interned and worked in Minneapolis and Chicago before her employment with Allen Hospital as assistant dietician. She was a homemaker, volunteered with Cub Scouts and Brownies and was a member of Chapter LK, P.E.O.

Survived by: three children, Jeffrey Rugen of Cedar Falls, Lisbeth (Phil) Walker of Drakes Branch, Va., and David (Karen) Rugen of Seattle; two grandchildren, Alexander and Lindsey Rugen of Seattle; and two sisters-in-law, Diane Conrad of Boise, Idaho, and Sue Rugen of Wheaton, Ill.

Preceded in death by: a brother, James Conrad.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Cedar Heights Community Presbyterian Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Richardson Funeral Home, and for an hour before services Monday at the church.
