LA PORTE CITY - Eugenia M. Sears, 80, of rural La Porte City, died Thursday, June 17, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, following an extended illness.

She was born May 25, 1930, at home in rural La Porte City, daughter of Dave and Ferna Elliott Vanderheyden. On July 10, 1952, she married Kenneth Sears at Geneseo United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Sears graduated from high school in Geneseo in 1947, continued her education at Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, then taught at Eldora. She and her husband farmed. She later returned to teaching and was librarian at the La Porte City School for 23 years.

Survived by: her husband; two daughters, Margaret (Kevin) Perrinjaquet of Edgewood and Rhonda (Myron) Jack of Victor; a son, Kevin of Albuquerque, N.M.; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial services: 11 a.m. Monday at Geneseo United Methodist Church, rural Buchingham, with private immediate burial in Spencer Cemetery, rural Buckingham. Public visitation from 3 to 6 p.m. today at Overton Funeral Home, Dysart.
