CEDAR FALLS - The Rev. Alfred Van Dyke, 90, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, June 16, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo.

He was born June 18, 1919, in Midland Park, N.J., son of Albert and Henrietta Winkler Van Dyke. He married Elizabeth Weis on Dec. 25, 1940, in Wayne Township, N.J. She preceded him in death.

During World War II he worked as a tool and die maker for Curtis Propeller Corp., then served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946, with rank of second class petty officer. After the war he graduated from Grace Bible College and spent 15 years in the gospel ministry, serving churches in St. Louis, Alton, Ill., Ashtabula, Ohio, and Riverdale, Ill. He earned a bachelor's degree from Elmhurst College and a master's degree from Purdue University. He retired from being chairman of the social studies department of Thornwood High School, South Holland, Ill. In retirement he served as a supply minister in various churches.

Survived by: a daughter, Linnea (Dr. Guy) Chiattello of Waterloo; two sons, Dr. Daniel Van Dyke of Rochester, Minn., and Frederick (Kate) of Niles, Mich.; 12 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Henry (Lois) Weis of Kinnelon, N.J.; a niece; and two nephews.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Walnut Ridge Baptist Church, Waterloo, with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, Cedar Falls. Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Public visitation for an hour before services Saturday at the church. Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
