Builder First 'Bus in Waterloo Dies

John De Graff, for 50 years a resident of this section of the state, died at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. N. B. Page, 1425 1/2 Mulberry street.

John De Graff was born at Towlesville, N. Y., July 13, 1836, and came west as a young man, settling first in Illinois and later in Iowa. He lived at Waverly and later at Waterloo. By trade he was a carriage-maker and it was he who built the first omnibus ever operated in Waterloo.

Nov. 11, 1856, Mr. De Graff was married to Margaret Ellen Milliken, to which union two children were born, a son, Charles, who died in infancy, and Mrs. N. B. Page of Waterloo. Mrs. De Graff died in 1897, and in 1907 Mr. De Graff was married to Mrs. Susan Wilcox, who survives him.

Funeral services will be Friday at 1:30 p.m., at the Baptist church in Dunkerton and burial will be in the Dunkerton cemetery. The remains are now at the O'Keefe & Towne mortuary and those wishing to view them may do so at any time before Friday at 11 a.m.
