CEDAR FALLS - Irene Francis Morgan, 97, of rural Cedar Falls, died Monday, May 31, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, of natural causes.

She was born in Bennington Township May 31, 1913, to Russell Sage and Hazel Steely Sage. She attended local one-room schools and graduated in 1930 from East Waterloo High School. Irene attended Iowa State Teachers College, receiving a teaching certificate in 1931, and taught in several rural schools in Black Hawk County. She married Roy Kramer in June of 1935 and they farmed in Bennington Township until his death in June of 1950. Irene married Paul Morgan in August of 1965 at Mount Hope United Methodist Church in rural Waterloo. They farmed and lived in Washington Township until her death. She was a member of Washington Chapel United Methodist Church. Irene was active in many church and rural organizations, Black Hawk County Farm Bureau Women, Cedar Falls Woman's Club, and was chosen as one of Iowa's Master Farm Homemakers by Wallace's Farmer Magazine in 1959.

Survivors include her husband, Paul; her son, Jerry (JoAnn) Kramer of Waterloo; stepchildren, Larry (Rae) Morgan of Iowa City, Joyce Illian of Norwalk, Dennis (Jana) Morgan of Longview, Wash., Diann (Dean) Peyton of Des Moines, Dinah (Dick) Faust of Mauston, Wis., Michelle (Craig) Neal of Pittsford, N.Y., Lorraine (John) Ward of Coon Valley, Wis., and Paula O'Brien of Seward, Alaska; 33 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren; her brothers, Clinton Sage of Waterloo and Harlan (Marlys) Sage of Middleton, Wis.; and her sister, Mary (Charles) Johns of Tulsa, Okla.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents; her son, John (Liz) Kramer; daughter, Kathleen Kramer; stepdaughter, Janice Baumgartner; stepson, Gaylin Morgan (Carol); and grandson, Steve Baumgartner.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Mount Hope United Methodist Church, 2003 E. Mount Vernon Road, Waterloo. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, Cedar Falls. There will be a private family burial service at Waterloo Elmwood Cemetery prior to the memorial service. Memorials may be directed to Washington Chapel United Methodist Church and Mount Hope United Methodist Church.
