WATERLOO — Chester L. Polk Sr., 77, of Waterloo, died Saturday, May 29, at Parkview Garden Nursing and Rehab Center of natural causes.

He was born Aug. 10, 1932, in Yalobusha County, Miss., son of James K. and Gencie Marie Winters Polk Sr. He married Dora Lee Hollingsworth Dec. 25, 1955, in Waterloo. She died Aug. 22, 1989.

Mr. Polk served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was employed as a laborer in the power plant at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for 35 years.

Survived by: four sons, Chester (Rose Smith) Polk Jr., John (Emma) Polk, David L. Hodges and Joseph (Regina) Polk Sr., all of Waterloo; three daughters, Doris Jean Wright of Fayetteville, N.C., Venita Hodges of Chicago and Jacqueline M. Polk (Jerry Sallis) of Waterloo; 20 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; three brothers, James Jr. of Detroit, Willie C. of Chicago and Walter Sr. (Nora) of Waterloo; and eight sisters, Vera (Thomas) Morgan, Ruby (Werdell) McWilliams, Birda R. Polk and Edith Polk, all of Milwaukee, Essie Bell of St. Louis, Eleanor R. (William) Harris of Memphis, Tenn., Alma (Archie) Bailey of Coffeeville, Miss., and Mildred F. Polk of Nashville, Tenn.

Preceded in death by: five brothers, Stanley, Waymon, Venice, Andrew and Jesse; a daughter, Dorothy Polk Jenkins; and a grandson.

Services: noon Friday at Antioch Baptist Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball and at services Friday at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to the family or American Cancer Society.
