EVANSDALE — Earl William Smith, 98, of Evansdale, died Sunday, May 30, at Cedar Valley Hospice House, Waterloo.

He was born Aug. 30, 1911, in Buxton, son of William and Anna Vaughn Smith. He married Grace Irene Walker Jan. 8, 1933.

Mr. Smith attended school in Buxton. He farmed throughout Iowa and moved to Waterloo in the 1940s, working at Rath Packing Co., John G. Miller Construction and retiring from Schultz Manufacturing.

Survived by: two daughters, Marylin (Vernon) Locke of Evansdale and Barbara Ann Strelow of Decorah; three sons, Duane and Delmar, both of Evansdale, and Ed (Maggie) of Waterloo; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: two children, Shirley and Dicky; three brothers, Frank, James and Richard; and four sisters, Myrtle, Emma, Mae and Lucy.

Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, with burial in Garden of Memories, both in Waterloo. Public visitation for an hour before services Wednesday at the funeral home.
