WATERLOO - Richard A. "Dick" Seppala, 84, of Waterloo, formerly of St. Paul, Minn., died at his home Tuesday, April 6, of emphysema.

He was born April 25, 1925, in St. Paul, son of Elmer and Helen Nier Seppala. He married Helen Christopherson on Feb. 18, 1944, in St. Paul. She died Jan. 11, 1984. He later married Nancy Champion on March 9, 1985, in Waterloo. She died June 10, 1995.

Mr. Seppala graduated from North St. Paul High School in 1943. He worked his way up from laborer to manager in the concrete industry, retiring as vice president from C.W. Shirey Co. He was past president of Sunnyside Country Club. He also was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving in the Western Pacific.

Survived by: a daughter, Marion (Ron) Holly of St. Paul; two sons, Dick (Lee Ann) of Maplewood, Minn., and Jim (Sandy) of Tucson, Ariz.; two stepsons, Jon (Dawn) Champion of Waterloo and David Champion of Casablanca, Morocco; a stepdaughter, Linda Pardo of Davie, Fla.; six grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Gold of Zapata, Texas; and a brother, John of St. Paul.

Preceded in death by: a brother, E. Joseph.

Public visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Locke Funeral Home, Waterloo, with burial in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.
