CEDAR FALLS - Gail E. Fitzhugh, 84, of West Des Moines, formerly of Cedar Falls, died Monday, May 3, at Manor Care Nursing Home, West Des Moines.

He was born Aug. 6, 1925, in Conway, son of Roy and Leona M. Murray Fitzhugh. He married Rachel A. McCurdy on Aug. 6, 1947, in Bedford. She died July 23, 2009.

Mr. Fitzhugh served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was the administrator at Taylor County Home for 15 years and at Country View care center in Waterloo for 20 years, retiring in 1985.

Survived by: two sons, Roy (Valinda) of West Des Moines and Dennis (Vicky) of Clinton, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: a brother, Roy Dean.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with burial at 10 a.m. Saturday in Conway Cemetery, Conway. Military honors will be conducted by Bedford American Legion Post 164. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today and for an hour before services Friday at the funeral home.
