WATERLOO — Amy Malinda Eslinger, 92, of New Hampton, formerly of Waterloo and Cass Lake, Minn., died Sunday, May 2, at New Hampton Care Center.

She was born May 2, 1918, in Worth County, daughter of John A. and Mabel Skjeveland Johnson. She married Otto R. Nyswander on Jan. 27, 1937, in Poplar Bluff, Mo. He died in 1969. She later married Vincel Eslinger on May 14, 1982, in Walker, Mo. He died in January 2007.

Mrs. Eslinger graduated from Northwood High School and attended beauty school. She was a beautician for 36 years, owning and operating her own shop in Waterloo and in Cass Lake. She also worked as an instructor at Pitze’s Beauty School, Waterloo, from 1969 until retiring in 1982. She was a member of the Eagles Aerie in Waterloo, the National Cosmetologist Association and the First United Methodist Church in New Hampton.

Survived by: two stepsons, Don Eslinger of Waukon and Larry Eslinger of Texas; a brother, Edward Johnson of Fairmont, Minn.; three sisters, Bernice Gorham of Fairmont, Crystal Squier of Nora Springs and Myrtle Johnson of Waterloo; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and extended family, Roger and Sandy Claypool and Jeree Svec, all of New Hampton.

Preceded in death by: two brothers, Clifford and Richard Johnson; and a sister, Mary Haren.

Services: noon Friday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation for an hour before services Friday at the chapel.

Memorials: may be directed to Iowa Hospice, 18 E. Main St., New Hampton 50659.

Amy enjoyed fishing, traveling and spending time with her family.
