WATERLOO — Marguerite J. Russell, 87, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, April 28, at home.

She was born Feb. 24, 1923, in Manly, daughter of Louis A. and Inez M. Gardner Collis. She married William D. "Don" Russell on Sept. 5, 1948, in Nashua. He died March 13, 2006.

Mrs. Russell graduated from Manly High School in 1941 and entered the U.S. Navy where she attended Hunter College, New York City, and State Teachers’ College, Milledgeville, Ga. She became an aviation storekeeper during World War II and served two years in Anacostia, Washington D.C.

Survived by: two sons, Ronald (Gerri) and Steven (Joyce), both of Evansdale; a daughter, Susan Dailey of Minneapolis; five grandchildren, Brad (Laura) Mrzlak of Wheaton, Minn., Brenda (Rolf) Kragseth of Northfield, Minn., James and Corey Russell, both of Evansdale, and Matthew Russell of North Liberty; and six great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: her parents; three brothers, Paul, Gaylord and Ted Collis; and two sisters, Sophia Blattspieler and Nina Nahas.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday and for an hour before services Monday at the funeral home.
