Howard Graham Killed July 16, Parents Learn

Howard Graham, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Graham, 1010 Eleventh street west, was killed in action in France July 16, a message received by his father yesterday afternoon advises.

Howard Graham was drawn in the first draft from DeKalb, Ill. where he was working on a farm. He went to camp Sept. 18, and after training went to France, reaching there May 24, 1918. He was a member of Co. L., 39th infantry, Fourth division. He would have been 23 years old had he lived until Sept. 29.

Besides his parents he is survived by two brothers and two sisters.

Tribute to Soldier at Memorial Service

Memorial services for Howard Graham, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilson D. Graham, who died of wounds received in action in France, were conducted yesterday at 4 p.m. at United Presbyterian church, the pastor, Rev. M. G. Munn, being in charge. The sermon was based on John 6:3-16 and in the course of his remarks Rev. Mr. Munn read a letter from the chaplain of the regiment in which Private Graham served.

Private Graham at one time had membership in the local church but transferred it to Reinbeck, Ia., U. P. church and was a member there when he died. Rev. Willard Wylie, pastor at Reinbeck, participated in the memorial program. Ray Graham, a brother, who is attending Monmouth college, and Roy, another brother at Waterman, Ill., were present.
