STRAYER, ARMSTRONG, SHAFFER

Paul Strayer, 87, resident of Black Hawk county for more than 50 years, and of Waterloo for 30 years, died Wednesday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. B. Armstrong, New Providence, Ia., of a complication of diseases incident to his advanced age. He had made his home with his daughter lor the last five years.

He was born Nov. 15, 1845, at Johnstown, Pa., the son of John and Martha Strayer. Mr. Strayer was one of 13 children, of whom only two survive.

He married Miss Elizabeth Shaffer, Nov. 7. 1875, at Hudson, lowa. Mr. Strayer was a member of First Brethren Church here.

Surviving besides Mrs. Armstrong are three sons, John W., Drinkwater, Saskatchewan, Can.; Louis G., Los Angeles, Cal., and Miller, Ames; also two brothers, Jacob, Johnstown, Pa.,
and George B., Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Drinkwater.

His wife preceded him In death In 1926 In Waterloo. Another daughter, Mattie, died In infancy, in 1870, and another son, Gwin R., died in 1893, at the age of 2 years. Another son, Dwight died of Influenza in 1918, in France, during the world war. He was a member of the A. E. F.

Funeral arrangements have not been completed, but the body will be brought here for burial.

Platt R. Strayer, 429 Bayard, is a nephew.
