WATERLOO - Marianna Meier, 89, of Waterloo, died Monday, April 12, at Friendship Village.

She was born Oct. 5, 1920, in Galva, daughter of Clarence and Mildred Whealen Elk. She married Marshall Meier on March 14, 1946, in Storm Lake. He died Dec. 15, 1993.

She graduated from Storm Lake High School in 1938 and Iowa State University in 1942 with a bachelor's degree in food and nutrition. She served in the Army Medical Corps during World War II. She was a dietitian at Allen Hospital from 1958 to 1971 and served as a dietitian consultant to area nursing homes for 10 years, retiring in 1982. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Survived by: a daughter, Jan Wilson of University City, Mo.; a son, Marshall "Chip" (Arlene) of Okauchee, Wis.; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Wilson, Rob (Erin) Wilson, Chad (Malissa) and Kirstin; and three great-grandchildren, Lily Parker, Annabelle Wilson and Lola.

Preceded in death by: a brother, Don Elk.

Services: 2:30 p.m. Friday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with burial at 1 p.m. Saturday in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery, Storm Lake. Locke Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials: may be directed to Westminster Presbyterian Church, Salvation Army, Friendship Village Auxiliary or Quakerdale.
