Dale F. Ott, of 209 Pleasant Drive, Hudson, died Thursday, July 29, 2010 at home, of a heart attack.

Born March 23, 1930 in Hazelton, Iowa to Fred and Louise Marie Scheckel Ott, he attended country schools, graduating from Arlington High School in 1946. He excelled in all sports and was particularly proud of making it to Iowa State Quarterfinals in basketball his senior year. He had a mean hook shot that was un-defendable until he gave up the sport in his 50's.

He proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict, in the Airborne Infantry of the 502nd Airborne Battalion, out of Fort Benning, Ga. Upon his honorable discharge from the military, he returned to work for Rath Meat Packing Company until their closing. He was employed for the City of Hudson until his retirement. He was praised for his work ethic and his desire to make Hudson a better place.

Dale was a hard worker, often times working several jobs at a time to provide for his family, and aid them in their college degrees. But he was best known for his hobbies: hunting, trapping, and fishing. Dale had a special skill and relationship with the many hunting dogs he called his devoted best friends. The local fish in the area are breathing a sigh of relief at his passing.

He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving through the years in many positions of leadership.

Dale is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jo, and his five children: Deborah Hatfield (Jerry) of Washington, David (Leslie) of Missouri, Michelle Buswell (Henry) of Utah, Timothy (Rebecca) of Utah, and Amy Youngblut (Harold) of Waterloo. Two brothers, Marvin of Waverly and Eldon of Marshalltown also survive him. He will be sorely missed by 21 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Robert and Howard Ott, and Janice Kirkpatrick.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Cedar Falls, with burial in Hudson Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Richardson Funeral Home, Cedar Falls, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

A memorial has been established.
