WATERLOO - Helen N. Fowler, 103, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, March 17, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center of natural causes.

She was born Oct. 4, 1906, in Holbrook, daughter of Daniel W. and Elizabeth Newkirk Gray. She married T. George Fowler at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Waterloo. He died March 23, 1996.

Mrs. Fowler began her teaching career in a single-room schoolhouse in rural southeast Iowa. She later became a librarian at Allen School of Nursing, retiring in 1972.

Survived by: two daughters, Patricia A. (Ed) Lindner of Dodgeville, Wis., and M. Susan Pagel of Waterloo; three granddaughters, Sharon A. (Dave) Burreson of Dodgeville, Jane M. Lindner of Fitchburg, Wis., and Catherine B. Lindner of Seattle; two great-granddaughters, Corissa Burreson and Megan Burreson, both of Dodgeville; a great-great-granddaughter, Chloe Hesgard of Dodgeville; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: her parents; five brothers, Francis, John, Edward, Daniel Leonard and Emmett Gray; three sisters, Mary Schulte, Agnes Tedrow and Loretta Murphy; and a son-in-law, Leo R. Pagel.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Queen of Peace of Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be 4 p.m. Legion of Mary rosary and 6 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also an hour before services Saturday at the church.
