WATERLOO - Irma Irene Chantre Hoff, 89, of Greensboro, N.C., formerly of Waterloo, died Friday, March 12, in Greensboro.

She was born Aug. 30, 1920, daughter of Minna and Vincent Chantre, in Forest Hills, N.Y. She married Clayton Hoff in 1945.

Mrs. Hoff attended school in New York, and during World War II she worked testing spark plugs for military aircraft. In the 1980s, the she and her husband started House of Eyes Optical Store in Greensboro.

Survived by: four sons, Gary (Linda) of Kapa'au, Hawaii, Glen (Mickey) of Spearfish, S.D., and Jeff (Wanda) and Clay (Kathy), both of Greensboro, N.C.; seven granddaughters; a grandson; and four great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: two sisters, Anna Mae and Althea; and a daughter, Janiece Rae.

Services: 4 p.m. Sunday at Congregational United Church of Christ, Greensboro.
