CAVANAUGH, DUFFY, SCHAEFER, RASMUSSEN

WATERLOO — Earl F. Cavanaugh, 96, of Waterloo, died Monday, March 1, of natural causes.

He was born Feb. 22, 1914, in Blessing, son of James and Elizabeth Duffy Cavanaugh. He married Helena Schaefer Jan. 24, 1940, in Eagle Center. She died June 25, 2005.

Mr. Cavanaugh graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1931 and had worked for Mayer Knife Co. for 40 years, retiring in 1986.

Survived by: a daughter, Marilyn Rasmussen of Waterloo; a grandson, Brad T. of Peachtree City, Ga.; two sisters-in-law, Frances Cavanaugh of Reinbeck and Rosetta Schaefer of Waterloo; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: seven brothers, William, Edward, George, Clarence, Elmer and Ralph, and James in childhood; three sisters, Gertrude Graney, Anne Lowing Meyer and Leona Schaefer; four brothers-in-law; and three sisters-in-law.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with entombment in Mount Olivet Mausoleum. Public visitation today from 4 to 8 p.m. at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil, and for an hour before services at the church on Friday.
