SOLON — Don Barkhoff, 65, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, at Brosh Chapel, 2121 Bowling St. SW, Cedar Rapids, with the Rev. Renee Lunemann presiding. Private family inurnment will be held in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo, at a later date. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and also one hour prior to services Thursday at Brosh Chapel.

Don was born Dec. 1, 1944, in Cedar Falls, the son of Benny and Dorothy Straight Barkhoff. He served in the U.S. Navy for more than four years and was involved in electrical maintenance on radar. Don installed carpet and flooring for Randy’s Interiors, Coralville, for many years. Don enjoyed classic cars including going to car shows.

Don is survived by his wife, Linda of Solon; a brother, Steve (Keevin) Barkhoff of Delhi; children, Dan (Darla) Barkhoff of Grundy Center, Sandy (Mike) Schebler of Solon, Britt (Kevin) Tompkins of Solon, Nicki Munger of Charlotte, N.C., Chad (Kristie) Munger of Houston and Kyle (Kassi) Bantz of Cedar Rapids; as well as 10 grandchildren and a great-grandson.

Don is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Carole Petra.

Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society in his name.
