WATERLOO - Betty D. Christy, 78, of Waterloo, died Friday, Jan. 29, at the Western Home Communities Elizabeth Martin Health Center, Cedar Falls.

She was born March 26, 1931, in LeRoy, Minn., daughter of Bert and Freda Rigmore Hanson. She married Glenn C. Christy on April 14, 1951, in Waterloo. He died Aug. 18, 1978.

Mrs. Christy worked for 27 years in the office at Rath Packing Co., until its closing. She then worked at Hanson Tire Service, Cedar Falls, and the Crossroads Hy-Vee store.

Survived by: two daughters, Pam (Ron) Varney of Waterloo and Paula (Rich) Schoof of Cedar Falls; three grandchildren, Adam (Lindsay) Varney, Andrew Schoof, and Morgan Schoof; three brothers, Kenneth (Ilene) Hanson of Dorchester, Dennis (Kaye) Hanson of Rochester, Minn., and David (Kathi) Hanson, of Albert Lea, Minn.; a sister, Carol (Dave) Bauer, of Tampa, Fla.; and a sister-in-law, Donna Hanson, of LeRoy.

Preceded in death by: her parents; two brothers, Foster and Don Hanson; and a stepbrother, Joe Paupach.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, Cedar Falls, and for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to the family for Best Friends Animal Refuge or the church, in lieu of flowers.
