CEDAR FALLS —John C. Fahrer, 89, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, Dec. 7, at the Western Home Communities Elizabeth Martin Health Center.

He was born May 5, 1920, in Waterloo, son of Alfons and Emma Assink Fahrer. He married Maxine Carstensen on Feb. 16, 1941, in Finchford. She died April 17, 2009.

Mr. Fahrer farmed until 1960, after which he became a salesman for J&R Sales.

Survived by: a son, Ron (Ann Dirksen-Fahrer) of Waverly; two daughters, Linda Matthias of Cedar Falls and Jeneane Ellis of Waterloo; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: a son-in-law, Roger Matthias.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Nazareth Lutheran Church, with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Garden Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home.

Memorials: may be directed to Nazareth Lutheran Church or Cedar Valley Hospice.
