CEDAR FALLS - Dr. Kenneth DeGroote, 81, of Cedar Falls, died at his home Wednesday, Dec. 2.

He was born Nov. 17, 1928, in Fort Dodge, son of Ray and Irene Buscher DeGroote. He married Philomena Cody on July 30, 1960, in Phalsburg, France.

Dr. DeGroote graduated from Sacred Heart High School, Waterloo, and served in the U.S. Air Force as a pilot during the Korean War. He then graduated from the University of Iowa Dental School. After dental school, he served in the Air Force as a dentist on bases in France and Germany. He started his dental practice in Waterloo and continued to practice in the area for many years.

Survived by: his wife; four sons, Michael of Panama City Beach, Fla., Steve (Jayne) of Maple Grove, Minn., Robert (Michele) of Osceola, Wis., and John (Joan Hewett) of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Mary Ann (Urs Oschner) DeGroote of Denver, Colo., and Laura (Antonio Valdovinos) DeGroote of Greeley, Colo.; seven grandchildren; three brothers, Virgil of Ackley, Marvin (Judy) of Waterloo and Gary Petrie of Manchester; and a sister, Carol (Merrill) Marr of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by: his mother.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4:30 p.m. rosary and 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also an hour before services Tuesday at the church.
