WATERLOO - Larry D. Holmes, 67, of Fort Smith, Ark., formerly of Waterloo, died Nov. 17, at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center, Fort Smith, after a sudden illness.

He was born Sept. 18, 1942, in Burlington, son of Carleton and Margaret Milligan Holmes.

He graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1960 and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Holmes worked at John Deere from 1964-1970 until becoming a self-employed painter in the Waterloo area. He was currently employed with St. Edward Mercy Medical Center.

Survived by: his wife, Paulette; four sons, Timothy D. Holmes of Forest City, Bradley D. Holmes of Santa Fe, N.M., Brian S. Holmes of Waterloo and Keenan (Angel) Polk of Fort Smith; a daughter, Kyra (Kevin) Hansen of Van Buren, Ark.; his mother, Margaret Blau of Cedar Falls; two brothers, Danny (Peggy) and Gordon (Linda), both of Davenport; four sisters, Ruth (Brian) Kelleher of Cedar Falls, Gail Smith of Cass City, Mich., Carla Holmes of Davenport and Leslie (Darrel) Niemann of Waupaca, Wis.; four grandchildren, Jesse Holmes of Forest City, Mason Polk and Ashwyn Polk, both of Fort Smith, and Payton Robinson of Van Buren; his mother- and father-in-law, Ruby and Adley Riddle of Fort Smith; and two brothers-in-law, Roger Riddle of Fort Smith and Ronald (Rose) Riddle of Springdale, Ark.

Preceded in death by: his father; his stepfather, Frank Porter; a brother-in-law, Wayne Smith; and maternal and paternal grandparents.

Services: were Nov. 20 at Lewis Funeral Chapel, with burial in Roselawn Cemetery, both in Fort Smith.
