LA PORTE CITY — William H. “Bill” O’Neill, 87, of La Porte City, died Friday, Nov. 27, at Iowa Veterans Home, Marshalltown.

He was born March 8, 1922, in Waterloo, son of Harry A. and Eva Marie Snodgrass O’Neill.

Mr. O’Neill attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and was a World War II Army veteran, serving from Dec. 27, 1942, through Aug. 18, 1946. He was a yard foreman at Waterloo Lumber Co. for 20 years, retiring in 1987. He was a lifetime member of La Porte City Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3983 and a member of La Porte City San Diego American Legion Post and the Odd Fellows Lodge.

Survived by: two sisters, Mary (Joe) Dilley of Waterloo and Rose (Carl) Muschick of Clemons.

Preceded in death by: two brothers, Ralph F. and Edward J.;and two sisters, Sarah Verch and Lucille Diercks.

Services: 1 p.m. Monday at La Porte City Funeral Service, with burial in West View Cemetery, La Porte City, with full military honors by La Porte City San Diego American Legion Post and VFW Post 3983. Visitation for an hour before services Monday at the funeral home.
