WATERLOO - Genevieve E. Diers, 96, of Waterloo, died Monday, Nov. 23, at Covenant Medical Center.

She was born April 13, 1913, in Waterloo, daughter of Michael and Elizabeth Fischels Becker. She married Ludwig “Lou” Diers on May 24, 1938, in Waterloo. He died March 19, 1986.

Mrs. Diers graduated from OLVA in 1931, then graduated from nursing school in Shreveport, Ill., in 1936 as a registered nurse. She went back to school and received her BSN at Joliet, Ill. She was a registered nurse, working at St. Francis Hospital for 47 years, retiring in 1990.

Survived by: two sons, Michael J. (Lou Ann) of Kyle, Texas, and Robert (Sharon) of San Antonio; two daughters, Lizann Diers Griffith of Waterloo and Regina McGee of Joliet; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, John (Mary Lou) Becker of Minneapolis; and a sister-in-law, Carol Becker of Minneapolis.

Preceded in death by: two brothers, Werner Becker in infancy and Joseph Becker; and a great-grandson, Payton Diers.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Waterloo, with burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Raymond. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. Legion of Mary rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation also an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials: may be given in her name to the church in lieu of flowers.
