WATERLOO - Richard D. "Dick" Banes, 67, of Waterloo, died Sunday, Nov. 1, at St. Marys Hospital, Mary Brigh Building, Rochester, Minn., from complications of pancreatitis.

He was born May 30, 1942, in Traer, son of William and Lorraine Mildenstein Banes. He married Judy Harwood on Nov. 12, 1966, in Dysart.

Mr. Banes served in the U.S. Army from 1961-64 and retired from John Deere Tractor Works in 2002, after 30 years of service. He was a member of Grace Brethren Church in Waterloo.

Survived by: his wife; a daughter, Tami (Steve) Meyers of Marion; a son, Tim (Deanna) of Warsaw, Ind.; four grandchildren, Brittany, Jordan, Jackson and Elijah; his mother of Traer; and three brothers, Gary and Dennis (Chris), both of Traer, and Don of Bradenton, Fla.

Preceded in death by: a granddaughter, Ellie Banes; and his father.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Brethren Church, with private family burial. Military rites will be conducted at the church by Becker-Chapman Post 138 American Legion and Waterloo Post 1623 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Public visitation from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to the church.

Dick will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
