LA PORTE CITY - Robert P. "Bob" Webber, 83, of Independence, formerly of La Porte City, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, at West Village Care Center, Independence, of natural causes.

He was born May 24, 1926, in Waterloo, son of Walter and Esther Coffin Webber. He married Mildred Schwickerath on April 12, 1950, in Alta Vista.

Mr. Webber worked in law enforcement for La Porte City and Black Hawk County for nearly 30 years, retiring in 1988 as lieutenant for the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Department. He was a member of the La Porte City American Legion San Diego Post 207, VFW Post 3983 and the Sheriff's Association.

Survived by: his wife; two sons, Steve (Ann) of Waterloo and Tim (Deanna) of Iowa City; three daughters, Deb (Lonnie) Phillips of Muscatine, Patty Keegan of Park View and Mary Beth (Brian) Brinkema of Independence; six grandchildren, Jeff (Teresa) Phillips, Mitch (Kya) Keegan, Kendall Keegan, Cassie and Emma Webber, and Blake Brinkema; a great-granddaughter, Brynnley Keegan; a brother, David Webber; two sisters, Mary (Don) Jordan of Readlyn and Carolyn Woodworth of Toledo; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Webber of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by: his parents; a daughter, Rebecca Webber; a brother, James; and a sister, Dorothy.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in West View Cemetery, both in La Porte City. Military rites will be conducted by La Porte City American Legion San Diego Post 207 and the VFW Post 3983. Public visitation from 3 to 6 p.m. today at La Porte City Funeral Service, with a 3 p.m. rosary. Visitation also an hour before services Monday at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to American Cancer Society or La Porte City Fire and Rescue.
